Lightweight composite deckhouse

Our company owes its existence to the maritime sector. The use of composite - fiber reinforced plastics in particular - as a construction material, and the early acceptance thereof in this industry, is easy to explain.

The maritime / offshore industry characteristics are: relatively low production volumes, freedom of form for an optimal streamline, a drive to increased performance (lightweight versus strength & stiffness) and longevity with minimal maintenance, being resistant to extreme weather conditions, corrosion-free, UV-resistant and easy to repair! The ideal building material for the maritime and offshore industry can be summarized in a word: Composite!

Holland Composites produces the composite deck houses for the Windcat workboats, to save weight and fuel. In addition, comfort is increased by the silence in the corrosion-free cabin.

Composite in the defence industryx

Composite sonar dome (or sonar window)

One of our specialties is making large, complex shaped, thick-walled composite sonar domes in a single production run. In 1999, Holland Composites developed a new technique to produce sonar domes - the excellent spherical part under the forecourt of large (war) ships such as frigates where the sonar is housed. Until that time, sonar domes were either of metal or glued from multiple (composite) parts.

We produce a single composite construction - without secondary connection - with a wall thickness of 20 to 80 mm which protects the sonar installation against slamming and vibrations. In addition to known advantages of composite such as strength and stiffness with relatively low weight, longer life and minimal maintenance, it is a big plus that the density of a composite laminate is closer to the density of water, and that the propagation speed of the sound thereby less disruption (which leads to better data from the sonar).
