Client: Solico Engineering
Location: Oosterhout, Netherlands
Year: 2010
Surface: m2
Material: Composite
Specifics: A sensor arm that does not vibrate when it is held next to an Audi sports car that drives at 250 km/h in the “Ingolstadt” wind tunnel.
For the composite sensor arm of the Audi Wind tunnel, Solico Engineering BV has designed the construction and calculated it structurally. The assignment was simple: Designing a sensor arm that does not vibrate when it is kept next to an Audi sports car that drives at 250 km/h in the “Ingolstadt” wind tunnel. This was not an easy task.
But with the right composite designs, calculations and material (s), Solico Engineering has been able to deliver this in good cooperation with, among others, Holland Composites, according to the expectations of the customer. A good example of another perfect collaboration for a special project.
Aerodynamic performance play a crucial role in reducing fuel consumption. Each prototype from Audi spends more than 1,000 hours on improvements in the wind tunnel. Streamlined for efficiency.
