For the Tilburg School for VAVO, Atelier Mariëtte Adriaanssen transformed an existing school building on the campus area Stappegoor. The façades were covered with composite Raficlad® façade panels in which white knit work was used according to the design by designer Petra Vonk.
The composite façade panels with staggered knitting patterns refer to the old textile factories in the area. An extra layer has been applied between the layers of fiberglass: the knit. This results in a light-transmissive / translucent composite panel with a surprising pattern that acts as a protective sunshade.
The composite facade panels enclose both the closed timber frame elements and, perhaps surprisingly, also the daylight openings. The tempered light and limited view increases the concentration of the students. The knit work is made up of three different patterns, which ensures variety in the design.
